Christmas - What's it all about?

Is Christmas just about decorations, Santa Claus, gifts and lots of good things to eat and drink? Is it just a time for family and friends to get together and celebrate?

We hope you will have a very happy Christmas, and enjoy it to the full, but surely, Christmas is far more than that!

Christmas is about a Person

A Person that some argue about and some forget altogether at Christmas.

The heavenly angels spoke about Him

For there is born to you this day in the city of David, a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2 v11)

Christmas is supremely about a very special Baby, Jesus Christ, who was really born in a real place on earth - Bethlehem, the city of David.

Christmas is about a Plan

As we approach Christmas, we are involved in a lot of preparations and planning. We plan the day, the presents, the food, the programmes we will watch on the television etc.

Christmas is all about a plan made by Almighty God long before He created this world. He planned to send His Son into the world to save His people from their sins. That is why the Baby in Bethlehem's manger was called "Jesus"

And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1 v21)

The Bible tells us that Jesus was the only One good enough to pay the price of sin because He was the perfect, sinless Son of God, who always obeyed His Father and never did anything wrong.

The Bible, God's Word, also tells us that we are all sinners ? people who have failed to measure up to His standards, who have lived to please ourselves rather than our Creator and because of this we are lost to God and separated from Him.

That at that time you were without Christ, having no hope, and without God in the world: (Ephesians 2 v12)

Thank God that He made such a plan so that we can have that broken relationship mended.

Christmas is Personal

Christmas is a time for celebration ? to praise and thank God for the birth of His Son, who was

"the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world". (John 1 v29)

He did this by dying on the cross, so that your sins can be forgiven; you can obtain eternal life and be reconciled to God.

What must YOU do to receive this forgiveness and eternal life? Nothing, except to receive the gifts from Him.

When you receive a gift at Christmas you do not work or pay for it ? it is free. So with God! Jesus Christ has paid the price, by willingly shedding His own blood on the cross

knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver and gold.... but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. (1 Peter 1 v18,19)

He has done all that is necessary for you to receive God's gift of eternal life.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6 v23)

How do you receive it?

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved. (Acts 16 v31)

This means that you personally must believe that Jesus is God's Son, and that He is the only way to God; that He was born in the stable at Bethlehem and died for your sins on the cross. And you must ask Him to forgive you and give you eternal life.
